One of the things that many people discover is that they can manage to lose ten, maybe twenty pounds, and then they gain it all back again. Not only does the original weight come back, but they actually manage to gain a few additional pounds as well. There are a number of things that you can do to help ensure that weight lost, stays lost.

Avoid any kind of trendy diet. Almost all of these diets are for a set period of time. You may lose the weight initially, but once you stop the diet you fall back into the same routine that allowed you to gain the weight in the first place. You have to change your eating habits and make it into a lifestyle.

Regular eating patterns are key. Skipping meals is never a good idea. You may not want to hear the same old cliché, but here it is again, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Eating a healthy breakfast gets your metabolism going right off the bat. If you only have a coffee, your body is going to go into “fat storage mode”. Rather than burning calories, your body knows that it is going to have to save energy and it decides to store the calories. Additionally, people who skip breakfast often find themselves snacking and wind up eating more calories than they would have if they had eaten at home.

Watch your weight. Get on the scale and watch your weight. Regular weighing will enable you to catch weight gain early. Do not be overly concerned with a one or two pound gain. However, if you see five pounds you know that you have to do something now. Do not wait until it is up to ten. The other major benefit to routine monitoring is that if you are exercising you may need to make changes in your workouts.

Beware of the weekend. Most people seem to be able to stick to their healthy habits during the week but allow them to slide on the weekends. This is ok as long as you do not slide too far. You should give yourself a break every now and then. However, a break is not an excuse to overindulge or be a total pig.

Watch your portions. If you want to have a steak, it does not have to be 16 ounces. Learn to limit the amounts of food that you eat. You will be amazed and pleased to discover that by simply watching the portions that you take, you will be able to keep your weight off.

Exercise. Almost all people who lose weight and keep the weight off have integrated some kind of regular fitness program into their life. This does not mean you have to join a gym nor do you have to jog six miles every morning. However, you will have to get more active.

All of these things will help you to keep those pounds off. Losing weight is hard and you do not need to back track. Regular monitoring, a little exercise and some common sense, and you will keep that rim new figure.
